Ordering Coffee in (Broken) Japanese
To: Triunfo.email Reader
Greetings,
Well, I took the plunge today! Inspired by a bit of courage (and a desperate need for caffeine), I tried to order a coffee entirely in Japanese at a local cafe that I know has some Japanese-speaking staff.
How did it go? Let’s just say it involved a lot of me saying 「えっと。。。」 (etto… - umm…), some fumbling with words, and a fair amount of pointing at the menu. I think I managed 「コーヒーをください」 (kōhii o kudasai - coffee please) and 「ありがとう」 (arigatou - thank you), but the bits in between were a bit of a blur.
The barista was very kind and patient, thankfully! It wasn’t smooth, but I did it. Baby steps, right?
Wish me luck for next time,
Oliver
